Really enjoyed the pacing here & how the nitty gritty of Johhny’s misdeeds leaked out, how the truth was revealed in all its grim facets. I fully believe in a vengeful sea (& the creatures within). A satisfyingingly dark folk tale
I do love a story of vengeance and the sea! You’re so good at capturing ambiance. I always feel like I can slip right into on of your stories, salt on the ocean breeze.
As for length, shorter is good for busy lives. Easier to dip in and satisfying to finish it all in one sitting. I think it largely depends on the story though. Sometimes you need more space to tell the tale right.
Thanks for your comment. And yes, now as I get older, I find I enjoy reading shorter fiction again for the reasons you say. It takes me a while to read a novel, and in small chunks, so it doesn't have quite the same punch sometimes.

Thanks so much. Yes, the sea is a cruel mistress, as they say. I am glad the folk tale vube came across!
Nice twist. Johnny may have pulled the wool over the eyes of the mothers and fathers, but you can't keep secrets from the sea.
Thanks for reading it. I am working through a series of "dark mermaid" type stories.
Love it!
Marvelous! Johnny got what he deserved and the other boys have been put on notice. The sea hears her daughters.
Thanks. Yeah, I don't feel sorry for Johnny one bit which maybe means he is too much a cliche, but oh well.
It was a well-told tale. I would call Johnny a trope rather than a cliche—a wonderfully satisfying literary classic.
